Musical Heritage Society has never shied away from offering some of the most unique albums ever made. We are as proud and apt to offer an album featuring a solo tuba or an accordion ensemble or banjo trio as we are to present a violin concerto, string quartet or vocal recital. We harbor no prejudice to the many instruments and voices that produce the music we love — whether standard fare or the exotic.
It is with that mandate that we are pleased to offer A Saxophone for a Lady, an album that features Claude Delangle, performing on tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, works by Debussy, D'Indy, Ravel and more. His sound is glowing and in the best traditions of the classical sax.
The album is dedicated to Elisa Hall, who, at the turn of the 20th century, was a seminal figure in Boston who promoted and performed on the saxophone more than 22 works she commissioned. This disc features some of those works. We love the saxophone in this setting and recommend this interesting and unique album!
