This disc features Pierre-Laurent Aimard in repertoire that is quite different from the Beethoven for which he has become known. Antonin Dvorak's Piano Concerto is one of the most interesting works of the repertoire and this recording is one of the best I've ever heard. Aimard and Harnoncourt, this time joined by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, find the inner voice of this beautiful concerto. Aimard seems to use a different tone for Dvorak and the give and take between piano and orchestra is superb. To round out the disc Harnoncourt and the Concertgebouw give a wonderful performance of Dvorak's delightful concert overture The Golden Spinning Wheel. These two works, while not as well known as the great Dvorak Symphonies (MHS #5667372) are pieces that Members will certainly enjoy, and Aimard's playing in all of the concertos is certainly worth getting to know.
