Alfred Deller's talents as a solo vocalist are in full glory in this volume of his Vanguard recordings. Deller's interpretations of these English folk songs combine classical precision with the improvisational freedom found on recordings of great folk and jazz vocalists.

The Deller Consort also stars in this collection, performing old English tavern songs, cries of London and arrangements of English folk songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
